Culture of Goa
Goa, a former Portuguese colony, is called 'Rome of the East'. It is considered as the most westernized state of Indian Territory as the inhabitants of GOA adopted western culture. Goa is enriched with cultural heritage that include folk songs, dances, music, visual arts and folk tales. Goans are fond of football. Environmental issues are prominently featured in Goa.

It is known as a multi-ethnic state with a majority of Hindu and Muslim along with Catholic minority. They live in perfect harmony and participate in each others’ religious festivals. Goa is famous for its Indo-Latin festivals especially the carnivals, witnessed by numerous people every year. Other popular festivals observed in Goa are Shigmo- the spring festival and Shivaratri. New Year is celebrated in Goa with great pomp and show.
Nightlife in Goa is alluring. Bars and restaurants are in abundance in Goa as it is the most admired tourist destination of India. It is also regarded as the dream destination of many foreign tourists. Night-outs and rave parties are held on beaches and nightclubs. Liquor and seafood of Goa attracts the tourists.

Goa is a small state situated on the western coast of India. It was liberated from the rule of Portuguese in 1961 and is considered as the 25th State in the Union of States of India.

 Religion 


According to the 2011 census, in a population of 1,458,545 people, 66.1% were Hindu, 25.1% were Christian, and 8.3% were Muslim. Smaller minorities of about 0.1% each followed Sikhism,Buddhism, or Jainism. Goa has a history of communal harmony.

The most popular celebrations in the Indian state of Goa are Ganesh chaturthi (Konkani: Chavoth), Diwali, Christmus (Konkani: Natalam),Eastern (Konkani: Paskanchem Fest), Samvatsar Padvo or Sanvsar Padvo,Sigmo,, (Konkani:Intruz), Sao Jao (Feast of John the Baptist) and the biggest Goa carnival feast, Feast of St. Francis Xavier (Goicho Saib). Goa is also known for its New Year's celebrations.Fairs and festivals at various temples are celebrated with great joy. The Goan Carnival is known to attract a large number of tourists.
